Google has launched the 2025 edition of its AI-focused startup accelerator in Africa, offering early-stage firms up to $350,000 in cloud credits and expert mentorship, the company announced on Thursday.

The tech giant said in a statement that the program targets seed-to-series A startups with live products, at least one founder of African descent, and a commitment to responsible AI.

Selected participants will receive up to $350,000 in Google Cloud credits, dedicated mentorship from Google and industry experts, access to a global network of investors and partners, and workshops on technology, product strategy, leadership, and AI implementation.

“Startups are Africa’s problem solvers. With the right resources, they can scale their impact far beyond local communities,” said Head of Startup Ecosystem, Africa at Google, Folarin Aiyegbusi.

“This program reflects our belief that AI can be transformative when shaped by those who understand the context deeply.”

The initiative builds on successes like Crop2Cash, a West African agritech alumnus using AI to onboard smallholder farmers, build their financial identities, and provide credit, traceable payments, and productivity tools.

The tech giant said such efforts are unlocking economic opportunities for farmers long excluded from formal systems, showcasing the potential of African innovation.

Since 2018, the accelerator has supported 140 startups across 17 African countries, which have raised over $300m and created more than 3,000 jobs, with many becoming regional and global leaders.

The program reflects Google’s belief that African founders, deeply rooted in local contexts, are best positioned to shape AI’s transformative potential.
