Former Vice President and ex-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has leveled serious allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, accusing him of corruption and misconduct.

Atiku made these claims while reacting to recent sexual harassment allegations against Akpabio and the National Assembly’s approval of President Bola Tinubu’s state of emergency declaration in Rivers State.

During an interview with Adesuwa Giwa-Osagie on Untold Stories, Atiku stated: “Not only is he corrupt, but he is also in the habit of abusing women.

“I was not surprised that the state of emergency passed in the National Assembly because I know that the leadership is corrupt, and I have no apologies for saying that. They could do anything.

The Senate President has been known for such behavior even when he was a governor,” Atiku stated.

These remarks come amid accusations by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who alleged that Akpabio harassed her and denied her certain rights after she refused his advances.

The controversy unfolds as Rivers State faces political unrest, with Governor Sim Fubara and his predecessor, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike, locked in a deepening conflict. The crisis escalated to the state House of Assembly, leading to President Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency, the suspension of Governor Fubara for six months, and the appointment of a sole administrator.

The National Assembly swiftly approved the president’s decision, intensifying debates over governance and accountability in Nigeria’s political landscape.
