LAGOS – The Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON) has dismissed three of its members over alleged gross misconduct and indiscipline.

The institute said that the members were dismissed after a thorough investigation into their conduct by the Governing Board, adding that their dismissal followed the act that set up the institute.

Speaking during a press briefing on Tuesday evening in Lagos, Dr. Stephen Udezi, President, ISPON, alleged the trio was suspended for consistently fanning the ember of crisis in the institute and for falsely parading themselves as Governing Executives of ISPON.

According to him, all available channels to dissuade the dismissed members to stop the indiscipline acts, including constitutional and diplomatic means failed to yield the expected result.

With the dismissal, Udezi said that Timothy Iwuagwu, Mrs. Esther Williams and Olayinka Fatunsi ceased to be members of the institute until they retrace their steps and officially apologised to the institute.

He specifically stated that Iwuagwu had been parading himself as the President of the institute despite losing a keenly contested election in Abuja, conducted by the House Committee on Safety Standards and Regulations between October 17 through 19, 2024.

Udezi insisted that he and other 10 governing members were duly elected during the ISPON Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Professional Development Conference (PDC) in Abuja.

He described Iwuagwu as an imposter who should be ignored by all members of ISPON and the media.
