ABUJA – A group of registered voters from Kogi Central Senatorial District has officially petitioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the recall of the suspended senator representing the district, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The petition, dated March 21, 2025, was submitted to INEC and was stamped as received by the Commission’s office on Monday, March 24, 2025. The petitioners, who have expressed concerns about the senator’s ongoing suspension, are calling for a recall process to be initiated.

In accordance with Nigerian electoral laws, the petition to recall a senator must meet specific criteria, including endorsement by a significant proportion of registered voters in the district. The INEC is now tasked with verifying the authenticity of the petition and determining whether the necessary thresholds have been met for the recall process to proceed.

Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central in the National Assembly, has been suspended amidst controversies related to her activities. The move by voters seeking her recall has sparked significant attention in the political landscape of the district.

Charity Ijoshe Omole, the leader of the Concerned Kogi Youth and Women group, submitted a petition at the INEC headquarters in Abuja, expressing their loss of confidence in the senator due to her alleged misconduct.

“We have lost faith in her leadership following the gross misconduct that led to her suspension from the Senate. The people of Kogi Central are now left unrepresented, and we believe this situation cannot continue,” Omole stated.

“We have come to recall her because we cannot afford to be unrepresented,” stated Omole. “This petition is being driven by Concerned Youth and Women of Kogi.”

“We, the people of Kogi Central, voted her into office, and now we are here to initiate her recall. Out of the 488,000 registered voters in the region, over 250,000 have already signed the petition in support of her recall,” Omole added.
