President Bola Tinubu is set to officially launch the Unity Torch Movement for the 22nd National Sports Festival at a ceremony scheduled for Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, the National Sports Commission (NSC) has confirmed.

The Unity Torch, a key tradition of the National Sports Festival, is a symbol of peace and unity, signifying national cohesion through sports.

According to the NSC, the torch will journey across all state capitals, heralding the festival and spreading the message of peace and brotherhood.

“The Unity Torch, which symbolizes peace and unity, will be taken around the capitals of all states of the Federation to herald the National Sports Festival and transmit the message of peace and brotherhood among the people of Nigeria,” the Commission stated.

The National Sports Festival, Nigeria’s premier multi-sport competition, serves as a platform for talent discovery, fostering unity, and promoting sportsmanship. In preparation for the event, zonal eliminations were recently held nationwide, with state contingents competing for slots in the main competition.

The NSC has reaffirmed that the 22nd National Sports Festival, tagged Gateway Games, Ogun 2024, will take place in Abeokuta, Ogun State, from May 16 to 30, 2025.
