Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has granted automatic employment to 54 postgraduate students who benefited from a foreign scholarship program to study health-related courses in India.

The announcement was made in a statement issued on Sunday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa, in Kano.

According to the statement, Governor Yusuf made the announcement during a reception and Iftar (the breaking of fast during Ramadan) organised for the students, who had studied at Symbiosis International University in Pune, India, and returned to the state on Friday.

“We have made all necessary arrangements to offer you automatic employment within the Kano State Civil Service,” Yusuf said. “Your appointment letters will be issued shortly through the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Head of Service. Additionally, you will benefit from the newly implemented minimum wage of N71,000 in the state. We have also increased allowances for healthcare workers to ensure a conducive working environment.”

The governor also expressed concern over individuals who, after receiving government-sponsored education, chose to work outside the state.

“I am surprised to see beneficiaries of government scholarships working elsewhere instead of contributing to the development of Kano,” he stated. “We appeal to you to use your knowledge and expertise to improve the lives of our people, particularly women, and to address critical health issues such as maternal mortality and sickle cell anemia.”

Governor Yusuf emphasised that the state’s investments in education and healthcare were designed to strengthen service delivery in Kano, and retaining skilled professionals is vital to achieving that goal.
