To Temidayo Adeoye, the author of “Project Management,” every newbie’s transitioning into technical project management or refining skills, the imperative of inspirational companion and practical guide cannot be over emphasised.

Sharing her experience, she recalled, “when I set out on my own journey into the world of project management, I had no roadmap, no clear guise, and no idea where I was headed. What I did have was a relentless drive to create order from chaos, and a passion for helping people thrive.”

Describing project managers are leaders, she noted, “they are not just checking items of to-do-list; but are guiding teams, managing resources and navigating the ups and downs of the project’s life cycle. They understand that no project goes perfectly – There are always challenges, setbacks and unexpected changes. But they embrace these changes with a calm and structured approach.”

Divided into nine chapters, Adeoye disclosed, projects, whether personal or professional, share some key components such as, defended goal, timeline, resources and tasks.

Other critical abilities include, communication, organisation and planning; leadership and teamwork; problem-solving and adaptability; and basic technical understanding.

She, however, suggested, “invest some time in learning the basics of the technology your team is using. Attend tech briefings, read up on programming languages and stay curious.

Having working knowledge will help navigate conversations and make better decisions.”

Speaking further, she added there are right tools every project manager must know. The right tools, she explained, can make or break a project. She said technical project managers have an array of resources at their disposal to help plan, track and manage both tasks and teams.
