Ferrari’s duo of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc have been disqualified from the Chinese Grand Prix.

The decision was taken after their respective cars failed post-race technical checks.

Leclerc and Hamilton finished fifth and sixth respectively in the Shanghai race.


However, their cars were in breach of two mandatory post-race scrutineering checks, which were carried out by FIA technical delegate Jo Bauer.

Leclerc’s car was discovered to be 1kg underweight while Hamilton’s car was thrown out for excessive skid-plank wear.

For Hamilton, this is the same infringement that cost him second place at the United States GP in 2023 when a Mercedes driver won.

The removal of the two Ferraris from the final classification means the Italian team have lost a potentially-crucial 18 points in the Constructors’ Championship.

It sees them drop behind Williams to fifth in the early-season standings and leaving them 61 points behind leaders McLaren.

Alpine’s Pierre Gasly, who finished 11th, was also disqualified for failing post-race weight checks.
