A women’s rights organisation, Project Alert, has conducted a two-day refresher training for members of its community surveillance team in Lagos.

During the workshop, held at NECA House, Alausa, on Thursday, CST members, drawn from 15 local government areas, identified prevalent forms of sexual and domestic violence as well as child abuse in their communities.

Representatives from Somolu LGA, Akande Saheed and Agoro Awawu, cited child labour and physical abuse as the most common social vices in their area.

In Oshodi/Isolo LGA, Azeez Okanlawon, highlighted harassment of young girls by thugs.

Meanwhile, in Alimosho LGA, Odebode Adedayo and Olugbenga Ogunniyi pointed to rape, economic abuse of women, and child labour as serious concerns.

Other forms of sexual and gender-based violence mentioned included domestic violence, drug abuse, sexual abuse, and prostitution.
