Ghana’s Narcotics Control Commission has arrested a 56-year-old Nigerian, Uchechukwu Chima, for drug trafficking in an operation at Oyarifa, a suburb of Accra, the country’s capital.

According to Ghanaweb, the suspect was apprehended on Tuesday in an intelligence-led raid at his hideout, with 192kg cocaine and 0.42kg heroin, approximately valued at $2.1m.

The report stated that the NACOC’s acting Director of Public Affairs and International Relations, Francis Amoah, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Wednesday.


Amoah said field tests confirmed the seized substances as cocaine and heroin, insisting that the Nigerian had masterminded previous drug-related seizures and arrests in Ghana.

Ghanaian authorities affirmed that Chima’s arrest was a major step in combating drug trafficking in their country as several people would be saved from the use of illicit substances.
