The Chief Executive Officer of Coscharis Group, Dr. Cosmas Maduka, has asserted that success is not defined by academic degrees but rather by a combination of informal learning and the right mindset.

He emphasised that mentorship and apprenticeship are among the best forms of education.

Maduka made these remarks while delivering the convocation lecture at Trinity University, Yaba, Lagos, on Wednesday.

Drawing from six decades of experience in building a multinational organisation, he highlighted the importance of vision, courage, and self-belief as critical factors for achieving success in life.

“To build something great, you must develop a hunger mentality—a relentless desire to climb to the top against all odds. Education has a cost, but I had no one to underwrite mine.

“However, with the right mindset, I overcame the obstacles before me. I educated myself because I believe that every experience in life is a learning opportunity—if you have the right mental attitude,” he said.

He further emphasised the power of self-belief, stating, “Self-belief, which I call mindset, is everything—provided it is supported by action and confidence.

To succeed in life, you need three key elements, which I will illustrate through my journey in building a multinational organisation over the past six decades.

“These are: vision – seeing beyond what is immediately visible; faith – believing in your vision, even when no one else does; courage – taking action despite risks because, without action, success remains unattainable.”

Maduka also outlined four fundamental pillars for sustainable success: credibility, relationships, integrity, and competence.
