The Ondo State Liaison Committee for the Niger Delta Sports Festival says it is working to ensure it selects the best athletes to represent the state at the forthcoming championship scheduled to hold in Akwa Ibom.

A member of the committee, Akintunde Akinsemola, said this on Wednesday at the Achievers University School field in Owo, Ondo, during trials to select athletes for the event.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Niger Delta Sports Festival is expected to hold in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, from April 1 to April 9.
NAN reports that the liaison committee members were accompanied by coaches of various sports associations who participated in the selection process.

Akinsemola who commended the level of turnout for the trials, said the state was eager to select the best athletes irrespective of their location in the state.

“The level of turnout at these trials is an indication that we are on the right track.

What I see here makes me happy; we have the youth population getting involved in sports and ensuring that we have the best representatives in Akwa Ibom.

“I believe that by the time we do our final trial, we will have the best team in Akwa Ibom,” she said.

Screening was conducted to select players that would participate in the final trials scheduled for Akure, the state capital.
