ABUJA – In a bid to tackle the economic and governance challenges in Ogun State, the Accord Party has called for the formation of an alliance among opposition political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

This alliance aims to ensure competent, citizen-focused leadership and a smooth transition of power, prioritising merit, integrity, and service to the public.

Unveiling the initiative, titled ‘The Ogun 2027 Now Project,’ Hon. Oke Rotimi Michael, the Ogun State Chairman of the Accord Party and convener of the project, emphasised the need to end dishonest practices, propaganda, and party-line polarization in the state’s political landscape.

He asserted that the era of political godfatherism and repression of opposition parties must come to an end, urging a focus on measurable commitments to alleviate the suffering of the people.

The proposed alliance is expected to operate under transparent and pre-agreed terms, ensuring an equal playing field for all participating parties.

Key benefits include the establishment of a strong opposition force, transparency and accountability in governance, and policies that reflect the needs of the populace.

Additionally, the alliance seeks to restore electoral integrity, promote economic and social development, and ensure balanced representation among all parties involved.

Hon. Michael highlighted that the alliance will prioritise candidates with respectable profiles, moving away from the influence of political godfathers or financial power. Each candidate’s commitments will be documented and shared publicly.

He stated, “While Nigeria is facing significant economic challenges that have particularly affected the middle and lower classes, Ogun State is not exempt. The suffering of the people has become increasingly evident, necessitating a political shift towards governance that prioritises the masses.

“ACCORD, a people-oriented political party, has called for negotiations to form an alliance with other like-minded parties to ensure that only competent candidates, especially for the gubernatorial position, succeed in the upcoming elections.
