Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has charged Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, to respond to allegations of corruption and diversion of local council funds levelled against him by his estranged political benefactor, Nasir el-Rufai.

The group said anti-corruption campaigners and pro-democracy advocacy organisations were eagerly waiting for the governor to convincingly debunk the weighty claims, because millions of Nigerians would have swallowed hook, line and sinker the allegations.

Noting that public perception was critical in a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, HURIWA added: “A public office holder such as the Kaduna State Governor, who has made a lot of media statements demonstrating his commitment towards good governance and the improvement of the quality of life of the rural and urban poor, it would be disingenuous and absolutely unacceptable that massive corruption allegations made against him by his predecessor are treated as idle talks.”
