BENIN CITY – THE Emmanuel Osemota Foundation has empowered 22 women in various small businesses to boost their commercial activities in Okpagha community, Uhunwode local government area of Edo state which he said were part of activities to mark the 2025 International Women’s Day (IWD).

Addressing the women, the Chief Operations Officer of the Foundation, Dr Ochuko Onovae said “we are celebrating the women all over the world and particularly we have come to this community. Women are a symbol of strength, they are the ones producing everybody that you see today, they deserve to be celebrated everyday and every time and that is why we decided to come to this community to celebrate with these women and empower them for their businesses so that they can sustain their homes

On her part, a volunteer Apiah Blessing, said women should be celebrated everyday because they bear the brunt of the home, they do everything to protect their homes

One of the beneficiaries, Rose Odigie said “Wherever the man brought this money from, God will replenish it. I thank the Foundation for honouring women in this community.”

In a statement sent to the media, the founder of the Foundation, Emmanuel Osemota who is a US based Epidemiologist said the Foundation combats challenges such as human trafficking, gender-based violence, and unemployment by providing access to education, menstrual health resources, entrepreneurship programmes and startups funds in Edo State of Nigeria.

These efforts not only empower women to become self-sufficient but also contribute to long-term societal change, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 5 on gender equality and empowering all women and girls.

He said he aimed to make “a lasting impact on the lives of women and girls in line with our mission. Through our initiatives we empower girls with educational resources, entrepreneurship opportunities, and menstrual hygiene kits, thereby, reducing dropout rates and fostering self-sufficiency.”
