OSOGBO – The reinstated local government chairmen in Osun State have prevailed on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, especially the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola to concede the 2026 Guber ticket to Chief Executive Officer, National Inland Waterways Authority, NIWA, Bola Oyebamiji.

The chairmen, along with their predecessors in office, at a meeting held at Tinubu/Shettima campaign office, Osogbo on Monday, agreed that Oyebamiji should be allowed to fly the parties flag for the election.

Addressing newsmen on behalf of the chairmen, the ex-Chairman, Boluwaduro local government, Mr Akeem Tokede said the group has launched a mobilisation movement called Grassrooters for AMBO to propagate Oyebamiji.

His words, “The minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola is still our preferred guber candidate but if he chooses not to contest, we want him to cede the ticket to the NIWA boss.

“We believe that with our grassroots structure as local government chairmen, we can mobilise and campaign for the NIWA boss to emerge victorious in the election.”

While responding to questions from journalists, he said the National Secretary of APC, Senator Ajibola Basiru is eminently qualified to contest but the decision of the party will bind over him if Oyetola anoint Oyebamiji.

“Senator Basiru cannot destabilise the party if he is not given the guber ticket. I have worked with him before, he is a core party man who recognizes leadership.

“Basiru is eminently qualified to contest and we considered that but we are throwing our weight behind the NIWA boss following our meeting”, he added.
