Jos – A disagreement between some Muslim youths and traditional worshippers escalated into violence in the Shimankar community, Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau State, leading to the burning of property.

Contrary to reports of fatalities, the Chairman of Shendam LGA, Mr. Nicholas Nshe, clarified that no lives were lost and the situation had been brought under control.

“There was no death, and the situation is calm,” Nshe assured.

The violence reportedly began on Sunday night and continued into Monday morning after some traditional worshippers, conducting their religious activities, passed through the community. This allegedly led to a confrontation with some Muslim youths, sparking a violent altercation as residents fled for safety.

While there were claims of injuries and property destruction, official security agencies, including the Plateau State Police Command and Operation Safe Haven, had yet to comment as their spokespersons were unavailable at the time of this report.

Nshe, however, emphasized that order had been restored.

“There is no cause for alarm. Everywhere is calm now, very calm. I will soon address the press formally, but I want to stress that there was no loss of life,” he stated.
