The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on Governor Seyi Makinde to enhance the capabilities of the state fire service in response to the increasing number of fire incidents in the state.

In a statement released on Wednesday by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Olawale Sadare, and made available to Vanguard, the APC highlighted the urgent need for improved resources and manpower within the fire service to address these frequent emergencies effectively.

The party emphasized the importance of prioritizing safety measures to prevent further tragedies, lamenting the significant loss of life and property that residents have experienced.

APC in the state expressed particular sympathy for the traders and others affected by the recent fire at Aleshinloye Market, noting the financial and emotional toll of such incidents.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the many traders and others who suffered losses in the unfortunate fire on Tuesday night, which underscores a troubling trend of recurring fire incidents across the state,” the statement read.

The party urged the Makinde administration to reevaluate its approach to safety, accident prevention, and emergency management in Oyo State.

The APC reiterated its appeal for the governor to empower the state fire service department and ensure it is adequately staffed and equipped to operate effectively in all areas of the state.
