The Kebbi Government has recruited 2,000 teachers to enhance delivery of quality education in the state.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr Halima Muhammad-Bande, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Birnin Kebbi.

Muhammad-Bande, who is also the chairman of the recruitment committee, spoke on the sidelines of the presentation of letters of appointment to the newly recruited teachers on Friday in Birnin Kebbi.

She said so far, 391 teachers were shortlisted as the first tranche, among holders of degrees, Higher National Diplomas (HND) and postgraduate qualifications who would be deployed to post-basic schools across the state.

The commissioner confirmed that another set of recruited teachers’ lists would soon be released, adding that the expected list would basically consist of candidates with a National Certificate in Education (NCE).

She disclosed that the Teacher Recruitment Committee received 18,000 applications and screened 4,000 applicants.

Muhammad-Bande urged the newly recruited teachers to dedicate themselves to duty and contribute their quota to the development of education in the state.

“A teacher in Kebbi is a king because the governor is a teacher who knows the value of teaching.

“Our governor assured that this is the first trench of the teacher-recruitment exercise; others will follow soon,” she said.

Muhammad Garba-Bena, Chairman, Kebbi House Committee on Education, lauded Gov. Nasir Idris for his support which facilitated the smooth conduct of the exercise.

“We are happy that this thing is happening during a time when teacher is in control. This recruitment exercise will continue until we have enough teachers in our schools.
