Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, on Thursday, presented the instruments of office to the new Eleruwa of Eruwaland, Oba Samuel Adebayo Adegbola.

The presentation was done at the Executive Chamber, Governor’s Office, Ibadan, the state capital.

The State Executive Council, at the end of its meeting on Tuesday, ratified the appointment of Oba Adegbola as the new Eleruwa.

Makinde revealed that he approved the appointment of Oba Adegbola as recommended by the Kingmakers for Eruwaland to return to the path of development.

Makinde said his administration would continue to do the right things to move the state forward.

While reaffirming that his administration would not interfere with the affairs of traditional institutions, the governor charged other ruling parties to keep their money rather than head to court.

The governor highlighted his effort to resolve the issue in 2019, admitting that traditional rulers play vital roles in the security architecture and preservation of culture and heritage.

In his acceptance speech, the newly crowned Eleruwa, Oba Samuel Adegbola, pledged to work for the reconciliation of the Eruwa people and join hands with other traditional rulers for the progress of the state.

The new monarch thanked the governor, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, and others for their efforts.

The monarch promised to work for his people and cooperate with all monarchs for the progress of the state.

Earlier, the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ademola Ojo, congratulated the monarch and all sons as well as daughters of Ewura.

The Commissioner said: “Your wisdom, patience, and diligence throughout the nomination exemplify the values we hold dear.”

Present at the event were Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal, Taofeek Arapaja, Hazeem Gbolarunmi, Chief of Staff, Secretary to the State Government Prof. Olanike Adeyemo, Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, and others.

The Eleruwa stool has remained vacant since Ọba Adegbola who was installed in 1998 was deposed on 29th November 2019 by the Supreme Court of Nigeria
