Ogun court sentences man to six months in jail for stealing hen

A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, has sentenced three individuals for theft and breach of trust.

They were arraigned separately by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Ogun State Command, before the Ago-Iwoye Magistrates’ Court.

The convicts are Joseph, 29, Kazeem Tobi, 20, and Adebanjo Segun, 21.
A statement made available to DAILY POST by the NSCDC spokesperson, Dyke Ogbonnaya, on Tuesday, stated that Joseph was arrested for fraudulently withdrawing N225,000 from a POS machine belonging to one Olatona Waheed into his personal account.

Ogbonnaya noted that upon interrogation, Joseph confessed to the crime and was charged before the Ago-Iwoye Magistrates’ Court on a three-count charge bordering on breach of trust, theft, and obtaining by false pretence.

Appearing before Magistrate Adeduntan, Joseph pleaded not guilty.

Delivering her judgment, the magistrate sentenced him to one year in prison, having committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 419 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, Nigeria.

Similarly, Kazeem Tobi was sentenced to six months in prison for stealing an Elepaq generator valued at approximately N120,000. He was arrested by operatives while attempting to sell the generator to a scavenger and was subsequently charged with two counts bordering on conspiracy to commit a felony and possession of an item reasonably suspected to have been stolen.
