ASABA: Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, yesterday backed the Direct Labour Agency ( DLA) through its testing Laboratory to ensure quality assurance and control of materials used by contractors in the state.

Speaking yesterday during the opening ceremony of A-Three Day Retreat tagged ” Repositioning the Delta State Direct Labour Agency for Better Performance in line with the MORE AGENDA of the current administration, Delta State Governor Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori who was represented by Commissioner of Urban Renewal, Hon. Michael Anoka charged the Direct Labour Agency to uphold quality control of materials used by contractors in the state.

According to Oborevwori, ” I am glad that the new leadership of the agency is coming up with fresh ideas to revive and reposition it for greater effectiveness, enhanced performance, and effective service delivery.

He re-emphasized the zero tolerance of his administration towards poor-quality jobs, stating that the establishment of the Central Soil, Asphalt, and Concrete Testing Laboratory will enable quality assurance and quality control of materials used by contractors handling projects in the state.

He enjoined participants to use the retreat to inculcate the core values of the agency for the success of MORE Agenda.

Earlier during his address, the Director General of Delta Direct Labour Agency, Chief Emmanuel Ighomena, lauded Government Oborevwori for resuscitating the agency for quality service delivery to Deltans, stating that We assure you of our commitment to contribute to the MORE Agenda through the development of road infrastructure across the three senatorial districts.

He maintained that the agency is equipped to ensure quality construction of roads through the certification of materials by the Central Soil, Asphalt, and Concrete Testing Laboratory.
He also urged the state government to make it mandatory for contractors working in the state to purchase asphalt from the reactivated asphalt plant of the agency at Agbor and Oghara.

He implored all participants to take advantage of the opportunity to gain knowledge from the various lectures to reposition the Agency for better performance.

During his goodwill messages, Hon Kenneth Oboro-Preyor, Chairman of the House Committee on Works who represented the Speaker of Delta, reiterated the need for the active participation of DLA in the testing of materials and monitoring of work during road construction.

Likewise, the Commissioner of Works ( Rural Riverine Roads, Mr. Charles Aniagwu who was represented by Mrs. Daboner Ruth stated that the construction of roads will not be business as usual or done on a friendship basis.
