Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered a stolen vehicle just hours after it was taken during a robbery in Lafia.

This was made known to journalists in a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel.

According to the statement, the suspects were arrested in the early hours of Saturday, July 12, following a coordinated police response to a distress call.

“At about 3:00 a.m., the Divisional Police Officer of ‘B’ Division, Lafia, received a distress call about an ongoing armed robbery at the residence of one (name withheld), located at Shinge by Railway Quarters in Lafia.

“The suspects, operating as a gang, reportedly carted away a Toyota Corolla with registration number GRU 106 AE, along with a Jincheng motorcycle.” the police said.

The suspects, identified as Basiru Lawal, a native of Rogo LGA in Kano State, and Dahiru Mohammed of Shinge Quarters in Lafia, were intercepted and arrested at Jibo Filling Station along Jos Road.

They were caught in possession of the stolen Toyota Corolla.

Police say the hunt is still ongoing for other members of the gang and efforts are being intensified to recover the stolen motorcycle.

Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, praised the prompt response and vigilance of the officers involved in the operation. He reaffirmed the Command’s stance on safeguarding the public and eradicating criminal elements across the state.

“He urges members of the public to continue supporting the Police by promptly reporting suspicious movements and activities in their neighborhoods,” the statement read.

Nansel added that the suspects are currently in custody and undergoing further investigation, the police said.
