One person has been confirmed killed and three seriously injured after gunmen suspected to be Fulani militia attacked the country home of former Minister of Sport, Damishi Sango, in Dalwal village, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, in the early hours of Thursday.

According to a community source who pleaded anonymity, the deadly attack led to the death of a female relative of the ex-minister, while one of those injured is his police escort.

“The bandits attacked the residence of Chief Damishi Sango in Dalwal village around 1 a.m. this morning, but we heard they started attacking the community from about 11 p.m. on Wednesday night,” the source told our correspondent.

“When they got to the Chief’s house, they began shooting sporadically. During the assault, one of his female relations was killed, while three other people, including his police orderly, Inspector Walba Go Tom, from the Special Protection Unit Base 4, Makurdi, attached to the former minister, sustained gunshot wounds.

“His service rifle, an assault weapon with a breach number, was taken away by the attackers.

“The female relative of the former minister died while receiving treatment at Plateau Specialist Hospital in Jos, while the police officer is currently hospitalized and responding to treatment,” the source added.
