The Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, Kaduna State has launched an investigation to unravel the full circumstances surrounding the murder of a senior Naval officer on a course at the college near the Kawo Flyover bridge in the state while attempting to fix a flat tyre on his vehicle.

According to military sources, the incident occurred on Saturday when the senior officer, who was on his way back to Jaji, stopped at a bus stop to replace a deflated tyre.

He was said to have been approached by an unidentified assailant who attempted to rob him of his mobile phone.

Upon resisting the demand, the officer was stabbed in the chest with a locally-made knife.

“A senior course student of the AFCSC Jaji was attacked and stabbed in the chest with a knife at a bus stop before Kawo flyover bridge by a yet-to-be-identified attacker. The unfortunate incident occurred when the senior officer had a flat tyre while on his way returning to Jaji and he alighted from his car trying to change the flat tyre.

“Unknown to him, his assailant suddenly appeared and demanded him to hand over his phone which he refused. The assailant suddenly stabbed him in the chest with a local knife.”

The source said the senior officer was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

“His body has since been deposited at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital Kaduna mortuary,” the source added.

Another source said a local vigilante who witnessed the attack and tried to intervene, was also injured as the assailant stabbed him in the hand.

The source said the attacker was subsequently overpowered and killed by a mob that gathered at the scene.

“A local vigilante who witnessed the altercation attempted to help the senior officer but was also stabbed in the hand by the assailant. The assailant was subsequently overpowered and mobbed by nearby people who also killed him on the spot,” the source said.

The spokesman for the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Lt. Col. Umar Adamu, told our correspondent on Sunday that investigations were underway to unravel the full circumstances surrounding the murder.
