Residents of Ifa Ikot Akpan village, Etoi Clan, Uyo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, have raised the alarm over the threat by suspected members of the KKK confraternity to attack the village.

The cultists had issued a warning to community leaders over what they described as ongoing harassment by local officials and security agencies.

The letter reads in part, “We, the members of KKK cult confraternity, write to warn Ifa Ikot Akpan Village Council members that we will not fold our hands and watch the constant harassment of our members through the use of security agencies.

“We want to state categorically that if anything happens to any of our members, the following people will be held responsible: Youth Chairman Mr. Abasiama Etim Eyo, Mr. Itoro Offiong Essien, Mr. Itoro Etim Ben, Chairman Mr. Edidiong Effiong Ubit, and Secretary Mr. Victor Edet Asuquo.

“Know that the leader of the KKK confraternity hails from Ifa, and we will not allow harm to come to any of our members in the village. A word is enough for the wise.”

However, the Village Head, Eteidung Ebong, in a statement made available to our correspondent in Uyo on Saturday, urged Governor Umo Eno and the Commissioner of Police to take decisive action to forestall an impending crisis.

He called for increased police patrols and investigations into cult-related matters in the area.

“We appeal to the Akwa Ibom State government and the Commissioner of Police to save us from the threats of the cultists,” the village head cried out.

It was gathered that during an emergency meeting and press conference, the village head identified two individuals in the community as being responsible for the recent disturbances in the area.

“We cannot sit back and watch our peace being destroyed. We have notified the authorities because this is not just a scare tactic, it’s a real danger.”
