The Kano State Police Command has reiterated its ban on all forms of Durbar activities across the state during the forthcoming 2025 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, citing ongoing security threats and intelligence reports indicating plans to disrupt public peace.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Command, in collaboration with other sister security agencies, congratulated Muslim faithful and law-abiding residents of the state ahead of the Sallah festivities, urging them to celebrate peacefully and remain security-conscious.

The statement emphasised that the ban, which was initially imposed during the 2025 Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, remains in force due to persisting security concerns.

It also disclosed that miscreants and their alleged sponsors were planning to hijack the traditional Durbar festival to foment trouble and destabilise the state.

“Acting on credible intelligence, the Command in collaboration with all security agencies in the state pronounced a total ban on all forms of Durbar activities throughout the state as part of our collective commitment to sustaining peace and security,” the statement read in part.

It added that the threats identified during the last Eid celebration, though subjected to stringent checks, were still considered potent, prompting the continuation of the ban.

The police further outlined key security guidelines for residents and worshippers during the festive period, warning against any action that could lead to a breakdown of law and order.

The directives, according to the Police statement, include: “a total prohibition of horse or animal riding (Kilisa); a ban on car racing, reckless or dangerous driving; strict warning against the unlawful possession or public display of firearms and weapons; the restriction on carrying any suspicious or dangerous objects capable of triggering panic.”

Parents and guardians were also advised to warn their children and wards against being used by “subversive elements,” as security agencies have been mandated to enforce the law to the letter.

“Members of the public are warned to desist from any act or conduct that may likely cause breach of the peace or breakdown of law and order,” the Command warned.

The police further called for prayers for the state, the nation, and the families of athletes who lost their lives recently while returning from the National Sports Festival.

“As we celebrate this joyous occasion, let us pray for the state, the nation and the state’s athletes that lost their lives on their way back from the National Sports Festival,” the statement concluded.
