The Mushin Local Government has refuted claims of negligence in response to reported activities of hoodlums within the community.

The reaction followed an online report alleging failure by both the Nigeria Police Force and local authorities to protect residents.

In a statement on Thursday issued by Eyitayo Ijaoribe, the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Emmanuel Bamigboye, the LG described the publication as “misleading and disparaging,” aimed at discrediting the efforts of the police and local leadership in restoring peace.

According to the statement, the vigilante groups currently active in Mushin were not a result of government inaction but were formally engaged through the initiative of Bamigboye in collaboration with the Nigeria Police, Area D Command, following consultations with community leaders.

“This step was taken to curtail the activities of hoodlums and prevent further attacks on residents,” the statement said.

The council cited the arrest of 42 suspected hoodlums earlier in the week, noting that the suspects were arraigned in court on Wednesday.

The statement noted that Bamigboye had consistently supported security agencies by providing operational vehicles, including recent donations of two Sienna space wagons to the Area D Command and CP Tactical Team, to enhance emergency response and patrol efforts.

The chairman also directed market leaders to enforce a 7:00 pm closure time until normalcy is restored, as part of broader safety measures.
