President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, northern governors, and key national figures have expressed deep sorrow over the death of a distinguished cardiologist, academic, diplomat, and politician, Prof Jibril Aminu, who died at the age of 85 years.

Shettima, on Thursday, led a high-powered delegation of dignitaries and mourners to the National Mosque, Abuja, for the funeral prayers of the late elder statesman and revered academic.

Aminu, a distinguished cardiologist, former Minister of Education and Petroleum, and one-time Nigerian Ambassador to the United States, passed away earlier on Thursday after a prolonged illness at the age of 85.

Shettima, who arrived at the National Mosque at 1:52 pm, commiserated with the family of the deceased and prayed Allah to comfort them and make Aljanna Firdaus the final abode of the late elder statesman.
Also at the burial were former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other dignitaries.

Tinubu, in a message released on Thursday from the State House, described Aminu as one of Nigeria’s most decorated medical professionals and an exemplary public servant whose career bridged medicine, education, diplomacy, and politics.

Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, hailed Aminu as a towering intellectual and patriot whose legacy spans education, diplomacy, and governance.

The Northern Governors’ Forum, in a statement by its chairman and Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, stressed Aminu’s lifelong commitment to national development and extended condolences to his family and the nation.
