The Obidient Movement in Delta State has condemned the defection of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former governor of the state, Ifeanyi Okowa, and other leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress, describing it as a grievous betrayal of the electoral will of the electorate.

Addressing journalists in Asaba on Friday, the Delta State Coordinator of the Obidient Elders Forum, Chris Biose, expressed concern over what he termed the “diversion of the mandate given to Oborevwori by the Delta electorate.

“The act of diverting the sacred mandate of Delta State electorates to another political party is a grievous betrayal of the electoral will of Deltans. It is an assault on party loyalty and the principle of democratic representation,” Biose said.

He criticised the defectors, accusing them of lacking principles, ideology, values, and ideals, just as he dismissed their claims that the move was intended to foster development in the state.

Biose stated that the wholesale defection was aimed at rigging future elections, particularly the 2027 polls, by aligning with the ruling party at the centre.

He warned that the move could expose the state to deeper insecurity and governance challenges.
