Following the erratic power supply at Ado-Awaye community in the Iseyin Local Government Area of Oyo State, Psaltry International Company Limited, on Saturday, inaugurated a 1.1KW solar power installation and a 1.1MW battery storage system to address the community’s electricity challenges.

The alternative power project was sited at the company’s plant in Ado-Awaye.

While inaugurating the project, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the company, Yemisi Iranloye, said the solar energy project was designed to support the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, whose supply had become unreliable.

Iranloye said, “The project will reduce energy costs, lower carbon emissions, and enable the organisation to focus on its goals for job creation by leveraging the national grid, the solar installation, and the backup battery system.

“With today’s in-house commissioning, Psaltry is proud to announce the launch of a sustainable energy solution featuring 1.1 kilowatts of solar power and 1.1 megawatts of battery storage. This setup will not only power our factory premises but also benefit Alayide village, our host community, among others.

“We used to spend heavily on electricity costs to IBEDC and diesel purchases. Now, with the solar alternative, we can enjoy a reduced energy cost, allowing us to channel the savings towards initiatives like employment drives and our girl-child education scholarship programme.”

Also speaking at the event, the leader of the foreign investors and representative of the Alitheia Group, a financial institution based in the United States and Mauritius, Tokunboh Ishmael, praised Iranloye’s perseverance in growing the company from scratch into a globally recognised cassava processing plant.

She also commended the company’s corporate social responsibility efforts, which include providing scholarships to farmers’ children, particularly girls, and supplying motorised boreholes and electricity to neighbouring communities.

Present at the event were representatives of other investors from Abuja, Lagos, the International Development Corporation of South Africa, and the Bank of Industry, among others.
