The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Prof Ayodeji Omole, has advised the newly graduated students of the institution to be more focused and add value to themselves.

He gave this advice in his address at the 17th Convocation and the 35th Founders’ Day Anniversary, held at the university premises in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, on Wednesday.

Omole further urged them not to see the day of their graduation as the final phase of their lives, but to rather see it as beginning and new phase of life.

The pro-chancellor said, “Let me use this opportunity to challenge the graduating students not to see today as the final phase of their lives, rather, it is the beginning.

“In this era of knowledge, economy and disruptive technology, one cannot afford to rest on his/her oars. There are still more lands to conquer. Whatever you want to embark upon after your graduation, you need to add value to it for it to sell. The competition is keener now ever than before.”

He, therefore, promised that the council would continue to support the university to be able to rank among the best in the world.

“We will continue to work to ensure that LAUTECH retains its pride and place in Nigeria and the world at large. That will only be the starting point because we aim to take the institution to greater heights and set more enviable records. As council, we will continue to ensure that standards are maintained in all ramifications in the university.”

In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Rasaq Kalilu, who congratulated the new graduates, also commended Governor Seyi Makinde led administration for his unalloyed support to the institution.

“We are very appreciative of the unwavering commitment and unalloyed support of the visitor to the university, the governor of the state. It however hoped that the governor will graciously indulge the Oliver Twist in us, and provide us with more support.

“The institution admitted “8,102 graduands into Bachelor’s Degrees with 94 in the First Class Division. 2,086 students graduated with Second Class Upper Division, 3,494 in the Second Class Lower Division, 756 in the Third Class Division and 12 in Ordinary Pass.

“Adeladan Adeduntan of the Department of Science Laboratory Technology, Faculty of Pure and Applied Science emerged the overall Best graduating with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.86.”
