A cleric, Prophet David Udo Udo has warned that many Nigerians, especially the poor and elderly, may be exposed to untimely deaths amidst the economic hardship ravaging the country if nothing is done by the government to alleviate their suffering.

Prophet Udo therefore suggested that an effective and functional social security system be set up to cater to the needs of the poor and the less privileged in the country.

Prophet Udo spoke to newsmen shortly after the Easter Sunday service that coincided with the 25th anniversary of his church, the Apostolic Mount Olive Church, in Elelenwo, Port Harcourt.

He said, “If our leaders in this country who go out (abroad) cannot bring those things to this country to help the poor, even the elders, the poor can die; elders can die, they can’t reach the age God gave to them.”

Wondering why Nigerian leaders travel to developed countries and refuse to replicate the infrastructural development they see there when they return home, he advised those in leadership positions to change their attitude.

He said, “My advice to our leaders in this country – many of them go out to other countries. They see what other Presidents are doing. We pray to Almighty God to give them wisdom.

I advise them to use wisdom, what they go out and see: good hospitals, good education, good economy – the way they manage their countries for the rich and poor to still be alive to eat and succeed in this life. When you go out to another country, what is the thing you see as good and you bring back to this country?”
