Nollywood actress Bukky Fagbuyi has revealed the intense pressures she faced early in her career, including being told to offer sexual favours to succeed in the industry.

Speaking during an interview on Biola Bayo’s TV show, Fagbuyi disclosed that multiple people told her she would not advance unless she agreed to date or sleep with producers and marketers.

“Not one, not two people told me that if they didn’t have their way with me or date me, I would go nowhere,” she said.

Despite these disturbing experiences, Fagbuyi said she chose to stay true to herself and her values, adding, “I’m not a saint, but I would only do what I want to do if it pleases me. Nobody can force me to do what I never wanted to do.”

She credited veteran actor Muyiwa Ademola for giving her one of her first significant breaks, describing him as a gateway figure in her early journey. She also praised actress Toyosi Adesanya for being a strong support system during her rise, saying, “She was very supportive of my career.”

Beyond her Nollywood journey, Fagbuyi shared her views on marriage, calling it a “beautiful institution,” but warned women not to chase it blindly.

“You must not search. Wait and pray,” she said, encouraging women to prioritize peace of mind over societal pressure.
