The Abia leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party has expressed confidence that the party will bounce back to reclaim its former glory in Abia State and across Nigeria by 2027.

The Abia State chairman of the party, Elder Abraham Amah, disclosed this on Sunday at the Abia North stakeholders meeting held at the country home of Mandela Obasi, the member representing Ohafia North State Constituency at the Abia State House of Assembly.

Amah said, “PDP will rise again. We have what it takes to win. Give us the candidate elected by the people, and we will win the election. If you give tickets to the choice of the people, we will win the majority of the positions in the state House of Assembly.

“Under my watch, anybody who undertakes any step to sell this party will suffer its consequences. The only saving grace is that if you don’t like PDP, step out. I have absolute confidence that we will succeed as a party.”

Addressing the Abia North stakeholders, the host, Obasi, assured that in 2027, PDP will produce more House of Assembly members, senators and House of Representatives members and urged faithful not to fear, assuring his support for the party in the zone.

Also present at the meeting were the party legal adviser, Ukpai Ukairo, PDP Legal Adviser (South East) and Deputy National Legal Adviser, Okechukwu Asuoha, Abia North PDP chairman, Okereke Elendu, former House of Representatives member representing Arochukwu Federal Constituency, Uko Nkole; and Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Chinedu Ndubuisi of Bende South State Constituency, among others.

They described the party as intact, having strong structures and being the most democratic in the country.

They maintained the need for faithfuls to work together as one body to achieve great feats in 2027, even in the face of defections by some members, and urged party leaders to always listen to what faithfuls are saying.

In a communique after the extensive deliberations on the state of the party, its prospects, and the way forward and signed by 40 faithful, they reaffirmed their commitment to the unity, progress, and overall good of the PDP in Abia State and expressed their commitment to “working assiduously towards ensuring that the PDP reclaims the Abia State Government House come 2027.”

They also pledged full support for Elder Abraham Amah and commended the efforts of the State Working Committee in rebuilding the party.

“We stand solidly behind Elder Abraham Amah in his bold and strategic leadership of the party and pledge our total loyalty and cooperation to his administration,” the communique stated.

They called on all party members and leaders across the Abia North zone to close ranks, eschew all divisive tendencies, and work together in the spirit of brotherhood and unity for the progress of the party, pleading, “We encourage greater participation of youths and women in party activities, in line with our belief in inclusive leadership and generational synergy”.

They commended the PDP caucus in the Abia State House of Assembly and urged them to continue playing their oversight role diligently while remaining true ambassadors of the party.

The meeting also resolved to establish local strategy and reconciliation committees across Abia North to harmonise interests, address unresolved issues, and ensure a united front for restoring PDP’s political dominance in the zone and the state at large.
