Kaduna State Police Command has apprehended six suspected kidnappers and gunrunners in a series of operations across the state.

The police personnel also recovered four locally-fabricated AK-47 rifles in the process.

The Kaduna State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, explained that the arrests were carried out in Kagarko, Lere, Ikara, Tafa, and Kauru local government areas in the state, saying that the suspects include individuals linked to recent kidnapping activities and illegal firearm possession.

The police spokesman stated that one of the suspects, Isa Ibrahim, 30, was apprehended on April 17 at Gida Abe while he was hiding, stressing that during interrogation, Ibrahim confessed to being a member of a kidnapping gang operating in Kwara State before relocating to Kaduna to establish a new outfit after his associates were arrested elsewhere.

According to him, “two other suspected kidnappers, Sani Liman and Murtala Magaji, were arrested on the same day in Lamido village, Lere LGA. They reportedly confessed to participating in multiple kidnapping incidents within the area, highlighting the ongoing threat posed by organized criminal groups.”

The crackdown, according to him, extended to firearm recoveries on April 18, when police officers raided Ikara and Kauru-Pambegua Road.

In Ikara, officers arrested Bajo, a resident of Vom Quarters, Jos, Plateau State, and Magaji Abdullahi of Bebeji LGA, Kano State, and both suspects were found in possession of two locally-made AK-47 rifles.

He added that during a routine patrol along the Kauru-Pambegua Road, police intercepted another group of suspected gunrunners, seizing two additional locally-fabricated rifles concealed within sacks.

“All the suspects are currently in police custody, cooperating with investigations. Authorities have assured the public that efforts are ongoing to track down other accomplices who remain at large, as part of Kaduna’s intensified campaign against violent crime and illegal firearm proliferation,” he explained.

Hassan stated that the police’s successful operations underscored their commitment to ensuring safety and security within the state, while serving as a stern warning to criminal elements operating in the region.
