As part of its ongoing nationwide campaign to reduce the impact of anticipated flooding, the National Emergency Management Agency, Enugu Operations Office, has taken its flood preparedness awareness to Enugu South Local Government Area, which has been identified as a flood-prone region.

According to a statement issued on the agency’s official X account on Saturday, this initiative aligns with the directive of the Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, who has urged all NEMA offices nationwide to promote awareness on the 2025 Seasonal Climate Prediction and enhance community resilience to disasters.

In collaboration with the Enugu State Emergency Management Agency and the Local Emergency Management Committee, NEMA Enugu conducted the sensitisation programme at the Kenyatta Market, Enugu South, to reach a broader audience.

The Head of NEMA Enugu Operations Office, Mrs. Ngozi Echeazu, expressed gratitude to the Chairman, Executive members of Kenyatta Market, and traders for their warm reception and enthusiasm for the programme.

She said, “The sensitisation was aimed at educating the public on the implications of the 2025 climate outlook, the importance of early warning and early action, community involvement, and risk transfer mechanisms.”

The statement added, “The presentations on flood preparedness, fire prevention, and basic first aid were guided by recent findings and reaffirmed NEMA’s commitment to working closely with Enugu SEMA and the Local Emergency Management Committee for effective disaster management.

“Activities during the sensitisation included a road walk, informative presentations, distribution of flyers, and one-on-one engagements in local languages and dialects.”
