University lecturers and undergraduates have described ‘Scholara,’ an indigenous educational app developed by two Nigerian graduates, as a technological breakthrough in learning and academic support.

They shared their views with South-South PUNCH in separate interviews on Tuesday in Asaba, adding that the app can be accessed via https://scholara.ng/

Scholara, created by two cousins, 26-year-old Jammy Guanah and 3-year-old Dobra Guanah is a next-generation educational tool designed to enhance learning for students across all levels.

Jammy is a graduate of Nautical Science from Liverpool John Moores University, United Kingdom, while Dobra studied Business Management and Leadership at Coventry University, United Kingdom. Both hail from Patani Local Government Area of Delta State.

The app developers said that the app was built to help students learn more efficiently and bridge gaps in the Nigerian education system.

Jammy said, “In summary, this app is a valuable addition to any student’s academic routine.

“It gives users a competitive edge and provides access to learning experiences typically exclusive to students in developed countries or top private schools.”

He emphasized the importance of Scholara app in environments where schools often lacked adequate guidance counselors or personalized learning support.

The inventors listed some of the app’s standout features including Scholara Tutor – which offers in-depth explanations of topics with follow-up support to ensure comprehension.

Others are Math Evaluator which helps solve mathematical problems step-by-step; ChatDoc – which allows students to engage interactively with their study materials; Flashcards Generator – which converts course materials into flashcards to aid memory retention; Quiz Tool – transforms notes into personalized quizzes for exam prep.

There are Multiple Explanations, which provide various interpretations of a topic to support deeper understanding; Keypoint Generator – which extracts key insights and summaries from lengthy texts; and Career Advisor – which offers guidance on suitable career paths based on interests and academic strengths.

Jammy noted that the app was developed in 2024 and officially launched on April 2, 2025.

He added, “Before launch, we shared it on various platforms for better testing and received significant positive feedback in a short time.”

Recalling the app’s origin, Dobra said, “We were discussing the challenges in the education sector, especially around student learning.

“That led us to brainstorm on how AI could be leveraged to improve the situation. That’s how Scholara was born.”

The duo said they had developed Digital Prof, a tool used by over 120 university lecturers to automate administrative tasks.

Dobra added, “Having worked as a secondary school tutor and supported my father – a professor – with grading and lesson planning, I have witnessed the limitations of our system firsthand.

“My exposure to both Nigerian and UK learning environments helped shape our vision for this app.”

They said lecturers and students, including Dr. Andrew Abbi, an Associate Professor of Mass Communication and Dean of the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences at the University of Africa, Toru-Orua, Bayelsa, have attested to Scholara as reliable and effective.
