Traditional rulers in Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State led by the paramount ruler, His Royal Majesty, Utsu-Ukandi Felix Ukwudari, in a decisive move to curb the rising incidents of theft and vandalism of public property, constituted a special committee to investigate and recover missing government assets.

Speaking at his palace during the meeting on Monday, HRM Utsu-Ukandi expressed concern over the increasing threat to government infrastructure, emphasizing the need for community-led efforts to secure public property.

He said, “This committee is a product of our traditional council meeting held two weeks ago. Our goal is to build a strong and reliable team that will recover our stolen assets and prevent such incidents from recurring.”

Upon inauguration, the paramount ruler issued specific terms of reference to guide the committee’s operations. He tasked them to verify the status of electricity transformers currently in police custody and ensure their immediate return to their original locations.

He added, “They are also expected to collaborate with the council chairman to access the necessary support required to carry out their mandate effectively. In addition, the committee will investigate all report cases of public property theft or attempted removals within the council.”

He added that the committee will also be responsible for developing preventive strategies and initiating public sensitization campaigns that will encourage residents to safeguard public assets.
