In a bid to teach students and make them understand the cultural diversity of the country, Brotherhood Model College, Calabar, the Cross River State capital, has celebrated its annual cultural day.

The school principal; Tari Pujeh in a statement on Tuesday said the event, themed ‘Celebrating the Beauty of Nigerian Culture’ is aimed at teaching the students unity despite the different cultures in the country.

She said, “The school is known for excellence, not only in academics but also in extra-curricular activities. That is why you can see the students putting in their best to show the diverse cultures of the country.”

Pujeh emphasized that as an institution known for excellence, each citizen of the country must forgo ethnic egoism and leave what divides Nigerians and make use of what binds everyone together for the nation to be indivisible.

She commended the students for their performance, urging them to learn from different cultures displayed at the event, adding that the school would continue to teach the students all-around education including extra-curricular.

Chairman of the occasion; Archbishop Joseph Aluko commended the college for showcasing the culture of the various ethnic groups in Nigeria, adding that identifying one’s culture as a child is paramount to self-realization.

He said, “Knowing other people’s cultures is an added advantage to the formation and overall development of the growing child, which opens the mind to the understanding of different cultures. This will no doubt forge the spirit of unity and co-existence devoid of unnecessary strives that cause fighting and war.”
