The South East Senate Caucus on Wednesday expressed shock and sorrow over the death of former Chairman of Diamond Bank, Dr Pascal Dozie.

This was disclosed in a condolence message issued in Abuja by the Caucus Chairman, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe.

Dozie, the founder of the defunct Diamond Bank Plc and a former chairman of MTN Nigeria, passed away at the age of 85.

His family confirmed his demise on Tuesday.

Reacting on Wednesday, Abaribe lamented that his death has robbed Nigeria of a banking guru and an acknowledged economist of high repute

According to him, Dozie was an icon and a foresighted economist.

“He was one of the steady hands in the economic circle that sat at the commanding heights of not only Nigeria’s macro-economic evolution but that of the entire Africa. Dr Pascal Dozie was indeed a pathfinder whose death would surely leave a huge vacuum in the banking industry and our country’s development.

“He was a great son of Igboland, an illustrious Nigerian and a beacon of transparent financial management in our dear county’, Senator Abaribe said.

The South East senators therefore condoled with his family, the banking sector, the people of Imo State and the entire Nigeria on the loss.
