The Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative is set to sign a $6 million Arete mini-Liquified Natural Gas Project Investment to drive the expansion of CNG to the Northern region.

The Technical Assistant in charge of Stakeholder Management and Public Engagement for PCNGI, Kenechukwu Chukwu, stated this in a statement in Abuja on Thursday.

Chukwu said the signing ceremony will take place on Friday, April 4, 2025, at the PCNGI headquarters in Abuja.

He added that a series of events have been lined up to mark the achievements the administration of President Bola Tinubu has made in bringing affordable transportation and enabling domestic utilisation of gas for industrialisation.

Chukwu also disclosed that there will be a presidential brief on PCNGI Progress on Monday, April 7.

He said, “The Presidential CNG Initiative is pleased to announce a series of important events demonstrating the administration’s commitment to the ongoing CNG Revolution.

“The specific milestone events lined up are as follows: April 4, 2025- Signing Ceremony of Arete Mini-LNG Project Investment of $6 million to drive the expansion of CNG to the North.

April 7, 2025- Presidential Brief on PCNGI Progress to date. On April 11, 2025- A groundbreaking agreement between PCNGI and Public Sector Unions on CNG Conversions to be delivered to 200,000 public sector employees.

“While on April 15, 2025, there will be a Phase 1 Flagoff of the rollout of Tricycle Deployment program with NACTOMORAS/ Fed Ministry of Youths

“From April 25, 2025, to May 29, 2025, there will be commissioning of Critical Last Mile CNG Distribution Refueling Stations in Enugu, FCT, Lokoja, Port Harcourt, Ado Ekiti and Abia states, expanding the nationwide footprint of CNG and enabling intra state transport from key traffic centres of Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and Kano.

“Week of May 5, 2025, will be the handover of Buses and Launch of Targeted Conversion Programs to servicemen of Nigerian Army., while the week of May 19, will be the launch of Security Services Train the Trainer Program for CNG Conversion of Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force and Police Workshop Technicians.”

Chukwu added that there will be Autogas Framework Operationalisation to enable seamless supply at discounted inlet prices for the Auto CNG Sector in collaboration with GACN and NGML in May 2025.

“On May 29, there will be a basic awareness training launch for Auto Technicians and Artisans
10. May 29-June 12, 2025- Launch of six Sites in Phase 1 of the University CNG Infrastructure Program with MDGIF and Federal Ministry of Education.”

Chukwu noted that the PCNGI’s work in the past year has been transformative and these programmes delivery demonstrates its commitment to a rapid transition of the transportation sector with CNG.
