A faith-based matchmaking firm, Tramatch International Ltd, has expressed its commitment to combating online dating scams in the country.

In a statement made available to PUNCH Online on Wednesday, the co-founder of the platform, Elijah Bassey, stated that dating scams have been a major bottleneck in the online dating ecosystem.

He stated that the firm has reinstated its commitment to user safety and trust by implementing advanced Know Your Customer verification and AI-driven fraud detection technology to combat scams.

He said, “The platform has continued to integrate advanced security measures, AI fraud detection, and a strong commitment to shared values.

“This is in response to the rising number of online dating scams, where fraudsters create fake profiles using stolen images.”

According to Elijah, the firm has introduced a mandatory identity verification process where every user must upload a profile picture and pass a liveness test using their device’s camera.

He added, “We have taken security a step forward by ensuring that the uploaded images match the real identity of the user. We are also working with relevant authorities to identify, flag, and report fraudulent activities on its platform.

“With the strictest verification policies in the Nigerian dating industry, the firm is actively detecting and blocking scammers using fake foreign identities. Men creating profiles as women to deceive users and imposters using stolen pictures and fake information to scam people.

“By enforcing KYC, we ensure that users are real, verified individuals, reducing the risks of catfishing, fraud, and identity theft.

“To further enhance user safety, we have enabled location-based matchmaking, allowing users to connect with verified matches near them. This minimises the risks associated with long-distance deception and encourages authentic relationships based on shared faith and values.”

Bassey, however, urged Nigerians to be vigilant when dating online and to use platforms that prioritise security and transparency.
