Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar has called on state governors across Nigeria to adopt the inclusive governance approach of the Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu, by eliminating the distinction between indigenes and non-indigenes.

The Sultan made this appeal on Tuesday during his Sallah homage to the governor at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Lodge in Sokoto.

He emphasised that in Sokoto, all Nigerians are regarded as indigenes, fostering a sense of belonging among residents.

“In Sokoto, we do not categorise people as non-indigenes; rather, we recognise them as members of our resident communities,” the Sultan stated.

He urged other states to replicate this model to promote lasting peace, unity, and national cohesion.

The Sultan also stressed the critical role of state governors in ensuring the safety and security of their people, noting that security is fundamental to societal progress.

“We appreciate the governor’s efforts in Sokoto, and we, the traditional institution, will continue to support his initiatives to transform our state.

“The governor, along with security agencies, has contributed significantly to improving security and curbing banditry in the state,” he remarked.

He also commended the governor for his large-scale distribution of food items during the recent Ramadan fast, describing it as an unprecedented gesture in the history of Sokoto State.

Additionally, the Sultan urged Nigerians to remain law-abiding and avoid actions that could disrupt the nation’s peace. He expressed concern over the misuse of social media by some individuals who spread false information and incite unrest.

He called on security agencies to remain vigilant against elements attempting to destabilize the country through misinformation and divisive rhetoric.

In response, Aliyu reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring the security and well-being of Sokoto State residents.

He identified unemployment, particularly among youth, as a major contributor to insecurity across the country, noting that many young people have resorted to working as informants for criminal groups due to financial hardship.

“This administration has trained and graduated thousands of youths and women in various trades to empower them and make them productive members of society,” Aliyu stated.

He further announced plans for an expanded skills acquisition program to engage more unemployed youths and curb restiveness.

The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritising Islamic affairs, assuring that more mosques and Islamiyya schools would receive government support.

He expressed gratitude to the people of Sokoto for their continuous prayers and support, urging them to sustain their cooperation with his administration.
