The Obasewa of Ile-Ife, Chief John Odeyemi, will mark his 86th birthday on April 4, 2025.

This was disclosed in a statement made available to Sunday PUNCH.

According to the statement, the renowned accountant, industrialist, and philanthropist, has left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s corporate and economic landscape.

The statement said, “Born in Ile-Ife, Osun State, on April 4, 1939, Odeyemi’s early academic years were spent at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School, Ile-Ife, before moving on to St. Leo’s College, Abeokuta.


His brilliance shone through during his accounting studies in England, where he won the prestigious Rubbery Owen Prize for Most Distinguished Student of the Year in 1965 and Outstanding Performance of the Year in 1966.”

Odeyemi is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, and has held key leadership roles across several major Nigerian companies.

“As Odeyemi celebrates his 86th birthday, Nigeria honors a man whose legacy of leadership, business acumen, and philanthropy continues to inspire generations. His life remains a testament to diligence, excellence, and service to humanity,” the statement read partly.
